The Celebration of Corpus Christi in our Parish

Posted on 31. May, 2014 in Uncategorized

ostensoir-dans-eglise400The Solemnity of Corpus Christi is one of the great feast days of the Church’s liturgical calendar. It is a time for all of God’s people to raise a song of thanksgiving and praise for the gift that Jesus left to His Church at the Last Supper: His very Body and Blood. On June 22 we will make our way in a solemn and joyful procession from St. Luaran’s chapel to Holy Trinity Church in the company of our Saviour. This public act of faith we offer humbly to the Lord and to our brothers and sisters in our community as an invitation to come and see how good the Lord is.

The Corpus Christi celebrations include:

40 Hours Devotion (adoration of the Blessed Sacrament beginning in Holy Trinity on Friday 20)

Holy Mass (at the usual times)

Solemn Procession (leaving St. Luaran’s at 6pm)

Benediction (Holy Trinity Church)

Who should participate, everyone. A special invitation to the children who made their First Holy Communion and the children who received the sacrament of Confirmation.

Welcome back Fr. Cassien

Posted on 26. Aug, 2010 in Uncategorized

We welcome back Fr. Cassien, who will be with us until 10th september.

We have asked Fr. Cassien to give us a short biography which I’m sure you will find very interesting.

I am Fr. Cassien Ndikumagenge, born on 8th April 1973 in Burundi’s southern province of Makamba, in a large family: I am the fifth child of nine, and all family members are still alive. This is not to be taken for granted; it is rather a miracle as my country is recovering from a 15-year long civil war (1993-2008) in which more than 300,000 people lost their lives.

Burundi is a small, landlocked African country. Its size is nearly 28,000 sq km, one-third of Ireland, but far more populated: the 2008 census says that we are more or less 8 million people. Burundi is located in the centre of the continent, sharing the borders with Tanzania (North-East, East and South), Rwanda (North) and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (West). With DRC, Tanzania and Zambia, we share one of the largest lakes in the Africa Great Lakes Region, which is Lake Tanganyika.

Burundi is rather Christian country, with 75% Catholics; another 20% are Protestants in their various denominations, and around 5% Muslims.

I was ordained a priest on 17th July 2004. As a deacon (October 2003), I was sent to study Scripture at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome, where I obtained my Licence in July 2007. I am proud to mention that I am a past student of the Irish College where I stayed all four years that I spent in the eternal city.

From October 2007 to this day, I am lecturing in Sacred Scripture at John Paul II Major Seminary of Gitega, Burundi – one of the three national seminaries (our bishops are planning to build a fourth seminary, as vocations are likely to increase in the years ahead). I am at the same time a member of the formation staff, sharing in the wonderful mission of training our seminarians to the priesthood. This academic year 2009-2010, we had 165 seminarians, and we enjoyed a very good summer harvest with 48 newly ordained priests for all of Burundi (8 dioceses). It is not too bad at all! It is rather a season of abundance and blessings from the Lord
